Unpopular Fiction has a new website, shop and branding, but our history started 10 years ago with Pudding Press Limited. As we're changing over our websites, here's the low-down.
Here is the news following on from our last blog post.. Lots of things have been happening behind the scenes at Pudding Press and our new platform is finally ready to reveal. Along with a new name, a new design team, printer and distributor.
What's New?
As noted, we've not only got a new platform and name (taken from our festival) but there is new design, print and distribution and this should hopefully help to make books more widely available.
The Larger Thing:
We're closing our main social media accounts for now. There are lots of reasons for this but this company was always supposed to be about the stories and the writing. Spending time on creating random content for companies making money from advertising space, and using that to do things we don't feel are wonderful for society isn't what we want to do at the moment.
We would rather like to spend our resources getting the things right that we need to. We haven't ruled out some advertising on these as yet, and maybe when social media becomes better, or we find some niche accounts we like, there may be a return.
However, for now it has felt toxic for too long and we want to get back to the work.
Is this a marketing disaster? Maybe but if you want to hear news about the company, see our new books, see conversations about stories and new authors, follow our blog on the new site or sign up for our mailing list. We will also have a new catalogue every year. Most of our authors also have footprints online and offline, so please do follow them.
What Stays The Same?
Other than the above, everything is more or less the same.
-
We publish young adult, horror and philosophy books
-
We're a indie UK micro press
-
We have a no unpaid work policy
-
Authors and illustrators get a slightly larger cut of profits than is usual, and we also have a different editorial structure to average
-
We only publish human writing and illustration
We'll be announcing our Detritus winner soon but for now, see you on the other side.
